The good thing about winter in Illinois is that I’m sometimes awake for the sun rise. Those 5am ones in the summer are just a little too early for me most days.

I caught this through the kitchen door (I think it was last year…we don’t have much snow left this year) with my old Mavica point and shoot digital:


A few moments later it looked like this through the kitchen window:


I’ve always been especially fond of the subtle pinks, purples and oranges of early morning and late evening, especially in the winter when vibrant colors are in short supply in the landscape.



The vines in the foreground are wisteria. This past fall we cut them way back, so I’m not expecting any blooms this coming summer…
